A film crew for the home improvement television series Designing Spaces will be arriving in Southern Oregon next week to film the construction of a new housing sub-division nestled in the gentle rolling hills of Eagle Point. Not your typical home-site construction, the homes being built have an interesting twist giving them noteworthy attention. Specializing in new and innovative building structures and materials, the Lifetime Television® home improvement series Designing Spaces is making APEX Block™ a part of the show’s “Going Green” segment set to air in first quarter of Spring, 2012.
The new 21 home sub-division is ready to start construction with a revolutionary, recycled building product called APEX Block™, The Greenest Wall System In The World™. Using the insulating concrete block to build the houses will reduce heating and cooling expenses by an estimated 50% versus a standard home built with conventional wood materials.
Crews will film the building of the initial home in the sub-division from just about every angle as the blocks are stacked and walls are quickly erected. If the event stays on schedule, professional contractor JR Mathis estimates the house walls to be 50-70% up by the end of the first day of construction.
Being offered a spot on Designing Spaces is a large leap for APEX Block™ and there is a lot of preparation work to be completed before the building and filming can begin. Being the month of November, Oregon weather is all but predictable and site setup is the first task to be completed. This will ensure tents are properly placed, power generators are accessible and propane heaters are available.
Currently contracted to build 21 homes using APEX Block™, Doug Lystra of Majestic Builders says there is a potential for 23 homes to be constructed in the sub-division. These homes will join the countless other homes throughout the United States built using APEX Block™, however, this will be the first complete sub-division to be built of APEX Block™.
